What the game stores on your device
Progress lives in the app's own local storage: stars and best scores per mission, total orbits caught, your pilot name, sound preference, and a randomly generated device identifier used for the online features below. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
What the game sends to our server
The app talks only to orbitcatcher.com, which we operate, for three things:
- Leaderboard submissions. When you finish a mission with a score, the app submits your pilot name (whatever you typed, so please don't make it your real name; it is shown publicly) and the run's input replay: the mission number and the position, direction and timing of each slingshot. Our server re-simulates the replay to verify the score. Verified runs, with the pilot name, are public on the leaderboard, and anyone can watch the replay.
- Leaderboard reads, so the in-game board can show real pilots.
- Anonymous usage pings. On first launch, each launch, and at mission start/end the app reports its platform (Android, iOS or web), app version, the mission number and your star count, together with the random device identifier. This tells us how many installs exist per platform and where players get stuck. It contains no names, no advertising identifiers, no location, and nothing typed by you.
The random identifier is generated on your device, is not derived from your hardware, and is stored on our server only as a keyed hash. We cannot connect it to a person, and neither could anyone who obtained the database.
What we never collect
No email, no contacts, no location, no photos, no microphone, no camera, no advertising ID, no fingerprinting, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and no way to spend money in the game.
The website
orbitcatcher.com sets no cookies for visitors and runs no analytics. The little toys on the site (the planet, the dome game) keep their counters in your browser's local storage and nowhere else. Web pages load the Baloo 2 and Nunito fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests those files from Google's servers.
Security and abuse prevention
To keep the leaderboard honest and the server standing, requests are rate limited by network address. Addresses are used transiently for this and appear at most as truncated hashes in security logs of rejected submissions; we do not keep a log of who played when by IP.
Children
Orbit Catcher is suitable for all ages. There is no chat, no free-text content other than the pilot name, no advertising, and no purchases. Pilot names are filtered to plain characters. If a name on the leaderboard seems to identify a child, tell us and we will remove it.
Deleting your data
Deleting the app removes everything local. To remove your scores, replays and pilot name from the leaderboard, email us your pilot name (and the device identifier from the game's settings if you have it) and we will delete them.
Changes
If a future version ever collects more than described here, this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the change will be described in the release notes.
